If you're Scottish, part
Scottish, or simply a fan of Scotland, you'll love these photos and graphics. There's a
bit of personal history to many of them.

Sky in Skye
Here's one reason why the Isle of Skye haunts all its visitors. Unforgettable landscape,
eerie atmosphere, and a pronounced sensation of kinship with both the land and its
inhabitants, both past and present -- if you're a Macdonald.

Over Sea, Over Land.
Motto of Clan Donald.
This is from a decal I bought in the gift shop
at the
Clan Donald Centre on the Isle of Skye, then scanned.

Lord of the Isles Crest
Dunscaith Castle
If you've ever been there, you're still haunted by it.
Get a feel for the Scotland of 700
years ago.
I climbed its ruins and lay an afternoon on its walls and damp stones,
then wrote a long
poem to my forebears.

Macdonald Crest
Help yourself! Nice color image of a popular version of the Macdonald crest representing
The Lord of the Isles.

Armadale Castle -- Clan Donald Centre, Skye
If you haven't been to the Clan Donald Centre -- your fault. Here is the modern-day
repository of the legacy and heritage of Clan Donald. It's situated on a preserved site on
the Isle of Skye and beckons all Macdonalds, MacDonalds, McDonalds, and affiliated clans.
You'll never forget your visit to the Centre and its environs.
This is our real home.

Glencoe
When I was in a tiny Sleat village pub in Skye in 1988, I asked a Gaelic-speaking elderly
gentleman at the next table if he might, by any chance, be a Macdonald. "Aye,"
he said, putting down his tankard. "And ye not be a Campbell?" Clearly, to this
day the massacre at Glencoe stands as a heart-rending milestone in the saga of the
Macdonalds.

Map of Scotland
Nifty little image of the homeland that might come in handy.

Hadrian's Wall

had the wall built to protect the empire
against the Picts (early Scots).
