Why are we so name-conscious? Because we're so heavily outnumbered by the hundreds of thousands of MacD's and McD's, that's why. This is our chance to live a little, to meet others with that spelling, and to share our collective tale of frustration and affliction: our own surname, proud inherited patrimony, misspelled on letters, affidavits, wills, baptismal and marriage certificates, junk mail -- you name it -- by those who ought to know better. Yes, even our teachers, pastors, in-laws, bosses, and high officials just don't get it: it's Macdonald, you guys. Small "d." |
