Q:  What's geocaching?

A:  Treasure-hunting using your GPS device.

This outdoor activity only started in May 2000 and has now caught on in all 50 states and several dozen foreign countries. It's a fun way to get up off your butt and start taking in the great outdoors.

To get started, go to the Geocaching web site and browse what it's all about. Enter your Zip code, state, or country to find the caches near you. When you find the cache, leave an item for each item you take; sign the log book in the cache and, if you want, write up your experience on the Geocaching web page for that cache.

Finding the "treasure" cache is only a small part of the activity. It's the thrill of the hunt, the means becoming the end, the beauty of the outdoors -- these are what geocaching is all about. It's a great way to discover places in your own city you've never seen, and is a terrific leisure activity for your entire family.
