Caitlin was baptized in the Catholic church in Balzfeld, Germany, a small village one kilometer from Horrenberg. Father Reinhardt Schacht performed the ceremony during a Christmas-season mass. As he laid Caitlin into the hay-laden manger, temporarily replacing the figure of the Christ child, the congregation sang, the Three Kings presided, godmother Hildegard smiled, and we cried at the sheer beauty of it all.
